A faculty-led group program is a program in which the on-site academic instruction is provided by USA faculty. These programs are typically offered for credit during the interim and summer sessions, or as part of an existing fall or spring class with an overseas component. A standalone group program is typically short-term and can last from 2 to 8 weeks. An overseas component to an existing fall or spring semester course typically last less than two weeks and the overseas travel takes place at the beginning or end of the term.
Program directorships and faculty participation in faculty-led study abroad programs are open to all tenured and tenure-track faculty, as well as instructors as determined by departments and contingent upon approval from the Dean of the appropriate division.
The Office of International Education (OIE) will assist you in developing a study abroad program and implementing a marketing strategy. OIE will work closely with faculty leaders from the very beginning of the proposal process. Interested faculty should contact OIE to discuss program ideas and planning.
Most summer and May term program proposals are due no later than mid-September. Faculty who wish to run programs in Fall or Spring should contact Bri Ard bard@southalabama.edu for more information.
OIE highly recommends working with an educational program provider to develop your faculty-led program. Following is a list of approved customized program providers:
Note: You will select the program proposal title that associates with the Academic Year the program will run. For example, if you will run the program during the summer of 2018, you will select "Summer, 2017" because we are in the 2017 Academic Year. Please let OIE know if you encounter any problems.
