Program Description:
Program Overview:
Partnering with the Department of Health and local communities in San Ignacio, Belize, this program will help bring education and capacity building to those without access to PT care. Belize is the only English-speaking Central-American country, with the lowest density of population in the continent. Some of the critical health issues that the country faces are diabetes, heart and cerebrovascular disease, HIV/AIDS, TB and acute respiratory infection. Program participants will run clinics and workshops in the villages, hospital and elderly care homes to help patients, families, and caregivers develop management plans that will result in long-term benefits for rural communities.  This program is open to students in the Physical Therapy program as well as Physician Assistant Studies, Occupational Therapy, and Nursing.
 
Accommodation and Meals:
Program includes lodging for seven nights and three meals per day.  Participants will be housed in shared rooms at hostels and apartments in central San Ignacio town within walking distance to the main street with cafes and restaurants.
 
Program Costs:
The cost of the Inter-Professional Medical & Rehab Service Program to Belize is $1,850. Program costs include in-country transportation, accommodations and meals as specified above, program related activities, and international health insurance and emergency assistance.  Program costs do not include: Flights, personal expenses, passport and visa costs (visas not required for US citizens).
 
Payment Schedule and Deadline:
A program deposit of $350.00 is due within 10 days of program application and no later than October 9, 2017. The first payment installment of $750 is due on October 30, 2017.  The final payment installment of $750 is due on November 17, 2017.  Applicants can reserve a spot in the program by hitting the "Apply Now" button and completing the online program application. Once accepted, applicants can confirm their place in the program by paying the program deposit of $350. The deposit is applied toward the cost of the program, $300 of which is fully refundable if the participant withdraws before the priority application deadline of October 9, 2017.
 
Refund Policy:
Program fees are refundable only in the event of cancellation of the program and are based on recoverable expenses. All payments should be considered non-refundable, and any requests for consideration of refunds based on extenuating circumstances (medical, etc…) must be made in writing and will be considered on a case by case basis.
