Program Description:
USA Global Sport Event Management in Australia 
Program Overview:
The USA Global Sport Event Management program will educate students on the planning, organizing, budgeting and operating of sporting events in global environments. Exposure to social and cultural diversity, governmental policies, and economic systems as they relate to international sports competitions will be emphasized. Program course will be offered online in the summer 2018 semester term exposing students to sport event management concepts in a multitude of global environments and include a travel abroad component where students will experience working an actual international sports tournament (World Boys Baseball Cup) in Sydney, Australia at the Blacktown International Sports Park from the opening ceremonies (August 3, 2018) to the championship game and closing ceremonies (August 8, 2018). Student duties during the tournament will include game operations, team travel coordination, broadcasting support, game promotions, security, ticket, and tournament revenue reconciliation, food and beverage concessions, and scheduling. Prior to the tournament, 3-4 days will be spent collaborating with the Western Sydney University sport management department, attending guest speaker appearances with Australian sports officials and visiting professional sport venue operators at the Sydney Football Stadium and Sydney Cricket Ground.  

Courses:
Student will register for one of the options below for a total of three credit hours.

LS 490- Special Topics Course, Global Sport Event Management (3 credit hours)
SM 590- Special Topics Course, Global Sport Event Management (3 credit hours) 

Accommodations and Meals:
Participants will reside in centrally located hotels, hostels, dormitories, or apartments throughout the program. Some meals are included. Group welcome and farewell dinners are also included.

Program Costs:
The cost of the USA Global Sport Management in Australia 2018 summer program is TBD. USA Study Abroad scholarships are available to all student participants who submit an application and meet minimum program requirements. 
 
Program costs include all in-country transportation, including all specified excursions and airport transfers for those who arrive on the assigned day and time, accommodations as described above, welcome and departure dinners, daily breakfast, specified museum entrance fees, and international health insurance and emergency assistance. Tuition for three (3) credit hours is also included, and financial aid may be applied to the cost of the trip. Program cost DOES NOT include international airfare. 
 
All meals, other than those specified are at the participant’s own expense. Participants should budget additional funds for supplies or personal expenses such as souvenirs or independent travel, based upon individual spending habits. International airfare is not included in the price of the program. 
 
Costs are based on anticipated exchange rates and enrollment and are subject to change. Program items may be changed in lieu of a price increase. 
 
Payment Schedule and Deadlines:
Space is limited. Program deposit of $350.00 is due at the time of application and no later than March 7, 2018. In order to qualify for a USA Study Abroad Scholarship, applications and deposits must be made no later than the priority deadline of February 16, 2018.  Final payment deadline is April 16, 2018. Applicants can reserve a spot in the program by hitting the "Apply Now" button and completing the on-line program application. Once accepted, applicants can confirm their place in the program by paying the program deposit of $350. The deposit is applied toward the cost of the program, $300 of which fully refundable if the participant withdraws before the priority application deadline of February 16, 2018.
 
Financial aid and scholarship moneys may be applied to these courses. If interested in applying for financial aid, please contact a financial aid officer at your earliest convenience to request an award for summer 2018. This program is part of the USA summer schedule of courses.
 
Refund Policy: Program fees are refundable only in the event of cancellation of the program and are based on recoverable expenses. All payments should be considered non-refundable, and any requests for consideration of refunds based on extenuating circumstances (medical, etc…) must be made in writing and will be considered on a case by case basis.
