Summer Courses:
The Security and Society Summer School is a six-week intensive course with online research internship. Four weeks (June 3-July 1) are spent abroad, based in Warsaw and with study tours to Krakow (Poland) and Berlin (Germany). A research internship is integrated into the course, with the final two weeks of the internship done remotely (online), July 1-14. Earn 8 ECTS (4 US semester credits).*
Central Europe and Security Issues
This course offers a broad overview of the challenges faced by the countries of Central Europe, NATO, and the European Union in the 21st Century. We will focus on regional and global implications of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We will look at war, international law relating to war, and peacebuilding. We will also address the topics of hybrid threats, cybersecurity, terrorism, and more.
Research Internship: Terrorism Research Center (online)
Founded in 2006, the Terrorism Research Center is a research unit within Collegium Civitas and is one of the leading think-tanks in Poland. The main fields of activity include scientific research, analytical undertakings as well as education and raising awareness about security issues in society. Center research focuses on the wide range of issues of international terrorism and its combating, as well as on the impact of those phenomena on the functioning of the state and its citizens, both in the public and private sectors. The Center’s interests include, but are not limited to: defining terrorist threats, evolution of modern terrorism, psychology of terrorism, tools to fight terrorism, risk assessment and analysis, issues related to mass media. While working on your own supervised research project, you will conduct research and analysis, interview experts, attend events and meetings organized by TRC, and contribute, along with other interns and experts, a research paper for publication.
Russian as a Second Language (RSL) Optional Extension: Yerevan, Armenia (July 3-Aug 4)
Extend your time abroad with intensive Russian language study and an introduction to security issues in the Caucasus. Those selecting this option will depart Warsaw at the end of the 4-week course (July 1) and spend two days in Tbilisi, Georgia before continuing on to Yerevan, Armenia. Your fifth week abroad (July 3-7) will be focused on making significant progress on your research. Your study of Russian (all levels) will start from week six (July 10) and you will compete your paper this week as well. Your remaining three weeks in Yerevan (July 17-Aug. 4) will focus on Russian language study and excursions and activities highlighting not only the culture and history of Armenia, but also the geopolitics of the region and related security issues.
Included in this extension are accommodations and activities in Tbilisi, transfer by chartered van/bus to Yerevan, tuition, dormitory accommodation, and cultural/excursion program in Armenia. Not included is the flight from Warsaw to Tbilisi, but we will provide guidance on which flight to book.

Note that with this extension, your transcript for the full program will be issued by our School of Record (Stetson University) and will reflect REES 390: Security Issues and Central Europe (4 credits) and Russian language course number based on your level, 4 credits.

Join a diverse student body for the International Security Studies Semester program and combine course work and a research internship under the auspices of the Terrorism Research Center.Each semester course is 3-5 ECTS, with the majority being 3 ECTS.
