Program Description:

USA VIRTUAL Afro-Argentine Culture & Spanish Language in Argentina

argentina
Program Overview:
This program exploring Afro-Argentine culture, literature and the Spanish language will be a synchronous course conducted entirely online.  Students participating in this program will take an online Spanish language course with EXSpanish Spanish Language School located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  The language course with EXSpanish will be an online immersive language experience that includes a vibrant cultural component.  EXSpanish Spanish Language School will provide guest speakers to enhance the cultural knowledge about Afro-Argentine culture because Argentina’s African cultural heritage will be the pedagogical emphasis of the online study abroad program.  My course will examine how the arrival of African captives through the Atlantic slave trade helped to shape the history of Argentine culture and early literature.  Lectures by local scholars/ cultural experts will provide students with the requisite tools to understand how the black presence in Argentina was rendered invisible.  The innovative online program is open to students with varying levels of Spanish, as long as LG 232 has been completed.

Students will enroll in the two following courses for a total of six credit hours:
